The village

La Flotte is perfectly situated, approximately 15 minutes from the bridge between l’Ile de Ré and La Rochelle: far enough to feel away from the business of the mainland, but close enough to be within easy reach of the amenities of La Rochelle. La Flotte’s picturesque harbour, just two minutes’ walk from our house, is surrounded by a wide selection of restaurants, with more restaurants along the promenade, all within five minutes’ walk. The harbour is the setting for spectacular firework displays in the summer. A large market takes place every day in the original medieval building, showcasing a wide variety of fresh local produce, and night markets under the trees take place in the high season. Sailing, wind surfing, kite surfing and more are available in the village, and the beach is a five minutes walk from the house.
